FINE Prototypes

Here we provide some examples of web-based techniques to allow the exploration of the Voices from the Blue Nile
collection of Wendy James.

These links will open in a new tab. They all require an up to date browser, with some specific requirements as detailed below.

  1. Media explorer and comparison (Chrome, Safari, Firefox-no sound) This prototype provides the ability to select media by theme or keyword, then open a comparison window to view resources side-by-side. Try the Pumbulu example by selecting those keywords, then clicking the rectangle in the top left of the screen to open the comparison. In the comparison pop-up window, mouse over the top left hand side for audio, or over the top right for a narrative explanation.
  2. (Broken) Media fragments demo (Chrome) This example uses the W3C Media Fragments standard to illustrate the use of timecodes to provide comparisons between juxtaposed video clips. We are grateful to the University of Ghent for hosting these examples
  3. Flash-based juxtaposition of video from two time periods An example juxtaposition showing the instrument Dumbale being played
  4. HTML5 Subtitles example An interview showing the use of HTML5 technique to generate dynamic subtitles from an SRT (Subtitle Resource Tracks) file.
